What is an AFC system composed of?

The TapToPay system components include a series of system hardware and software:

  •     Contactless smart cards and cashier cards
  •     Front-end devices, including bus validator, driver console and reloading terminal
  •     Front-end software (e.g. bus validator software, reloading terminal software)
  •     Central computer software
  •     Key management system

In addition to hardware and software elements, we also provide extensive support services to ensure smooth deployment and operation

  •     Preparation of business rules and procedures for efficient operation
  •     Preparation of business development plan for financial control and audit
  •     Training of the operation personnel
  •     Compilation of operation manuals and other relevant documentation
  •     Provision of technical and maintenance support

 

What is the smallest fleet size to support an AFC system?

Our solutions can accommodate any fleet size, from 1 to 10,000. We will tailor our system to suit individual needs.

Can I continue to use paper tickets in an AFC system?

Yes, but it is not recommended. While a paper ticket-based AFC system can still allow efficient resource planning with detailed transaction records and analyses, it does not offer other system benefits, e.g. lower operating cost for cash handling, more efficient operation flow and shorter transaction times, etc.

What support services are offered by TapToPay?

We provide extensive, round the clock support services to our customers, before and after implementation. These include:

  •     Preparation of business rules and procedures for efficient operation
  •     Preparation of business development plan for financial controls and audit
  •     Training of the operation personnel
  •     Compilation of operation manuals and other relevant documentation
  •     Provision of technical and maintenance support

Does the system support other languages in addition to English?

Yes. Our system supports multiple languages. Please contact us to see if we can support your preferred language.

Can I have customized fares and settings at front-end terminals?

Yes. All the fare-related settings can be configured.

Can I have customized reports?

Yes. Our central computer system is extremely flexible and allow for customized reports.

How is system and transaction security ensured?

The system integrity is protected by a sophisticated security system, based on generation, distribution, storage and usage of cryptographic keys residing in Security Access Modules (SAMs). End-to-end security from the point of transaction to the point of verification is achieved through SAM authentications.

How is the Central Computer System secured from hacks?

TapToPay Central Computer System is a highly reliable system, and available with server farming and redundancy devices. Our central computer system takes care of high data integrity with database clusters, multiple levels of data backup, data recollection mechanisms, and sound transaction processing techniques. With multiple levels of authentication, authorization, firewall, Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) and Hardware Security Module (HSM), our Central Computer System is secure in network and in application.

Can I purchase particular sub-system(s) (e.g. Bus Validator system) only?

It is possible but not recommended. If no AFC system is in place yet, the best option is to adopt the TapToPay AFC system to keep integration work at a minimum.

Can a loyalty/reward program be integrated into an AFC solution?

Yes. Service providers can opt for an array of existing loyalty programs for marketing campaigns, or customized loyalty program can be developed to suit local needs.

How is local technical support provided?

We offer a range of business options, ranging from 2nd level support only to 24 hour local support.

I have already issued stored value cards to customers. How can I migrate to your system?

Integration work is necessary, dependent on technical specification of the existing card and its compatibility with our system. The alternative is to recall and replace all the existing cards.

Can I specify the type of card to be used in the system?

Yes. Our system can support a range of card standards.

How do your AFC solutions integrate with existing Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), e.g. fleeting management, passenger information systems?

TapToPay AFC solutions can interface with other ITS and provide necessary data, such as the location of buses, passenger traffic at particular stop, real-time communication with drivers, on-request services, etc.
